We all know that planning a wedding can be overwhelming and feel like it is going to break the bank! But let us help you learn how to plan a budget friendly Southern Minnesota Barn Wedding! At The Barn at Ballard Creek, we can help you plan the wedding of your dreams without breaking the bank!
Step 1: DAY OF THE WEEK. Most couples instantly think of Saturday as the golden day to get married and we totally get that! But, if you have a dream venue in mind and dream vendors, a great money saver is getting married on a non-Saturday. Most venues and vendors offer great discounts for non-Saturdays and non-peak months. At the Barn at Ballard Creek, we host many Thursday, Friday and Sunday weddings with great promotional pricing! You still get ALL the amenities at a fraction of the price! Take a look at our packages and fill out our contact form for more details!
Step 2: CATERING, APPS AND LATE NIGHT SNACKS: Feeding lots of guests food and drinks can get very costly, quick! One of the simplest ways to save on your food and alcohol budget is to cut your guest list down. Micro weddings are all the new rage! They give you the opportunity to spend more time with your closest friends and family and still have your dream wedding. At the Barn at Ballard Creek, we offer promotional pricing for Micro and Intimate Gatherings and allow you to still invite additional guests to the dance, drinks and desserts! This way you can still visit and share your excitement with everyone on your guest list, but still save a dime or two!
The Barn at Ballard Creek is also an open vendor venue which gives you a lot of flexibility when choosing your food and drink team! Kelsey and Jonah used Hyvee Catering and had the most delicious Burger and Brat Bar set up, EVER! Everyone enjoyed it, it was super decliious and very affordable! Many of our couples also turn to local restaurants for late night options to soak up some of the beverages guests have been enjoying. The Thunder Bar in Good Thunder has been an absolute favorite and delivers fresh, hot pizza right to you and your guests!
Step 3: FLORALS. Florals are absolutely stunning and can create a vibe for you, your bridesmaids and your guests on your wedding in Southern Minnesota! Some florals can add up quickly, so consider following a new trend we are seeing which is using real, DRIED flowers or local flowers from a flower field like The Little Cobb Flower Farm. Kelsey’s mother in law collected and dried flowers in the early summer and brought her THREE bouquets to choose from! They were absolutely gorgeous, full of meaning and will last forever!
Step 4: OTHER MONEY SAVERS. The dress – definitely consider consignment shops or the discount rack at your favorite bridal shop. We have seen SO many gorgeous dresses that were found at these gems! In the end, as long as you feel your best and LOVE your dress, that’s all that matter!
Hair and Make Up: Consider recruiting a friend or family member with that special skill! We have seen endless brides loving having their besties help with hair and make up. Not only does it make them feel extra special, but they also know you and your style, are probably open to make little changes last minute and will also help save on the budget! We have also seen some brides do their own hair and make up. While you may not get the extra pampering, you know you will love how it’s done and will still get to enjoy the beautiful bridal suite on your big day!
Photography: Consider a shorter package. Most wedding photographers offer a variety of packages for you to choose from. Have a conversation with them about all the MUST HAVE shots and see what options they might be able to offer you to stay within your wedding budget.
We know that wedding budgets are a huge deciding factor when planning your wedding and choosing your wedding venue. Kelsey and Jonah had such an incredible Friday wedding at our Souther Minnesota Venue and were able to plan their dream wedding within their set wedding budget. The atmosphere was so happy with so much love and laughter! We hope you’ll consider a Non-Saturday wedding here at The Barn at Ballard Creek, take a look at our packages for more info and fill out our contact form so we can visit here soon! We can’t wait to hear from you!

Tim and I and our 5 kids love hosting weddings here at the farm! Tim was born a country boy in Southern Minnesota and Lindsey a city slicker who loves architecture and historical restoration. The two of us have put our dreams together to create this little haven known at the Barn at Ballard Creek.
